Let's try that again. What you may wish to consider for a base is to use one of those old telescopic TV aerials. They have varying post sizes in one and they look great.
And now that you mention it, I think I have an old set of "rabbit ears" in a closet somewhere... Hmmmm! I never thought of cutting one up to get the varying sizes of tubing.
For a while I thought of making a kind of Star Trek mobile out of them, but I decided against it; people might mistake it for a wind chime and hang it outside.
Rabbit ears that's it! I had a case of brain slippage.
